The government will impose further restrictions on social activities and some economic sectors amidst the increasing number of Covid-19 infections and fatality rates nationwide.
Details on the additional restrictions would be announced by the Senior Defence Minister in a press conference tomorrow.
This was announced by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement tonigh following a special National Security Council (NSC) meeting on the management of Covid-19 chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Following the discussion, the PMO noted that the meeting had unanimously agreed to further tighten the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0, which came into effect May 12 for a period of four weeks.
It added that the special meeting today involved the various state governments in a bid to gain their input on the situation in each state as well as to obtain their views on the efforts being made to curb the spread of the virus.
"The meeting had examined the presentation by the Health Ministry on the current status of Covid-19 including the infectious rate, health capacity of each state and proposed actions to control the spread of the infection.
"Besides that, the special meeting also discussed the status of the MCO 3.0 implementation.
"Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for MCO 3.0 have been tightened including interstate and inter-district travel bans and restrictions on social activities, sports and recreational activities as well as face-to-face conferences and meetings.
"Nevertheless, the virus is spreading fast and cases are on the rise and the existence of more aggressive new variants with high infectious rates have caused efforts to flatten the infection curve to take longer."
